As the Statutory Harbour Authority responsible for commercial activity within its jurisdiction the Port of Workington takes its environmental responsibilities very seriously.
We work closely with a variety of environmental bodies such as the Marine Management Organisation, Environment Agency and Natural England to ensure best practice is followed and compliance with legislation.

Maintenance Dredging
Maintenance dredging is undertaken as required to maintain the advertised depth at the bar, the approach channel, the turning basin and enclosed dock.
Dredging is carried out by a specialist dredging contractors and all dredged material is disposed of at sea using one of two licensed sites.
Waste Management
Workington has an approved Port Waste Management Plan in place which details procedures for all ship and port generated waste.
