The Port of Workington offers extensive internal rail sidings for rail freight, including dry bulks, liquid bulk, containers and forest products.
The rail terminal is equipped with two 45-tonne reach-stackers for handling containers; and front-loading shovels for handling dry bulk to and from train. In addition, the rail sidings offer stabling for bulk rail tankers where the liquids are transferred to road tankers for onward delivery to nearby factories. It also offers extensive concrete hardstanding areas for lay-down and consolidation of rail related cargo.
The Port’s internal rail sidings are linked to the main line network direct to the Cumbrian Coast Railway Line connecting West Coast Main Line at Carlisle in the North and Barrow-in-Furness in the South.
