Unitised Cargo

Sea/Rail Freight Terminal

Container movements are handled at the Port’s rail terminal by 45T reach stackers with immediate access to the main container yard.

Containers can be received and despatched by rail, via the Port’s internal rail sidings, which are linked directly to the main line West Coast Coastal Railway network, connecting from Carlisle in the North to Barrow-in-Furness in the South.

Containers can be received or despatched by road direct to the A596, connecting to A66 east/west trunk route and A595 north/south or A66 east to the M6 motorway.

The Port’s harbour mobile container crane offers discharge/loading from ship to the main container yard for onward distribution by rail or road.

Our RoRo berth also offers the option for unitised RoRo traffic from/to ship to the main container yard for onward distribution by rail or road.
